A shame that he's being sent on to the grinder already. After all, he now has a entirely new food source. Poopie nummies make a fluffy grow up biiiiig and strong! Plenty of room to grow!

Anonymous11: I love your biopunk consumerist designs like the fluffies logo on the hoofs or how the foal has a quality control and gender logos tattooed on its skin

- Reply
Deliverance: @KvarN: Damn, it was meant to say "Fluffniture", good catch.

- Reply
guodzilla: @Deliverance: Fluffyrniture still works, if you pronounce it right with a schwa where the 'y' is.

- Reply
guodzilla: @Anonymous: It didn't have to...It naively signed its own death on day 9, by uttering the fatal "onwy witt'we babbeh" phrase. I thought you knew, the Fluffluminati are watching everywhere, and that lethal phrase is an instant death-sentence, no exceptions.

Anonymous15(13): @Anonymous: They like to roleplay being psychopaths, but get all triggered and defensive at the thought of actual animal abuse. This is a lamer version of the kid knocking over blocks and pretending to be Godzilla.

Anonymous23(13): @ObviouslyOblivious: They fill all the criteria to be considered animals. Sorry.

Yes, I know they are drawings.

- Reply
ObviouslyOblivious: @Anonymous: These criteria are?
- Reply
Anonymous24: @Anonymous: Fluffies are not alive, they are not animals, they only simulate having feelings.
- Reply
Nummehnese: There´s still hope for the booru. Ignore the retards and keep on with the quality stuff!
- Reply
Anonymous25(13): @Anonymous: Are you retarded? Of course they're alive! TThey are made of cells, obtain and use energy, grow and develop, reproduce, react to stimulus, and adapt to change.

- Reply
ObviouslyOblivious: @Anon25: Adapt to change, as if. They're alive, but they're definitely not animals. They're retarded biotoys, nothing more.
- Reply
Anonymous26(13): @Anonymous: They are heterotrophic, motile, and develop.
- Reply
Anonymous27(13): @ObviouslyOblivious: They are the dictionary definition of animals. Adapting poorly to change makes it a poor animal, but an animal still. Your feelings do not change the science.

Are dragons animals? They don't exist, but they are animals.
- Reply
Poopiesketti: @ObviouslyOblivious: please don't start with the "Bio-toy" thing again.

Fluffies are the personification of everything wrong with genetic engineering if you want to generalize things.

And they don't have true sentience, just a parody of it. The phrase "Am onwy wittwo babbeh" is a generalized term that the young use as an excuse for everything. It's always "Am onwy wittwo babbeh" never any variation of it
- Reply
Poopiesketti: You CAN program genetic sequencing. Hell, in this future, maybe genetic scientists can program the brain to a limited extent, hence "Wuv, Huggies, Miwkies, Sketti, Mummah, Speciow Fwiend, Speciow Huggies, Good Poopie's/Bad Poopies" these could be a sequence encoded in the initial production of the first fluffy. And they remain because of some type of primitive form of species wide Memory retention
- Reply
Anonymous28(13): But they ARE animals.@Poopiesketti:
- Reply
Anonymous29: @Anonymous: @Anonymous: they're definitely not animals, they are genetically engineered fuzzballs that should never have technically existed in the first place. it doesn't make sense that you can label them as animals saying that they "adapt". we have robots today that adapt to the world around them, yet we don't label them as animals simply because they're mechanical things. fluffies are the exact same thing as a robot in this sense, but in flesh and blood. getting back to "adapting" itself, they simply don't adapt, they follow a set procedure ingrained in their genetic coding to solve their problems, which is why we see fluffies say something along the lines of "please don't hurt me" in fluff-speak to both humans and then something that can't even be reasoned with like a door that swings on its hinges and hits the fluffy repeatedly as it tries to go through. they don't adapt, period. fluffies are biological things with the mask of a cute, cuddly animal. heck, I love fluffies as an idea, but calling them anything but a toy is just beyond sense to me.
- Reply
Anonymous30(29): @Anonymous: amen
- Reply
Anonymous31(13): @Anonymous: Okay kid, listen up. There are rules in biology. Rules to define a living thing. They are-

*Made of cells
*Obtain and use energy
*Grow and develop
*Reproduce
*React/Adapt to Stimulus

Those things determine what is alive. But what is an animal? For an life form to be an animal, and not a plant or fungus, they must-

*Heterotrophic (Consume other life forms)
*Motile (Move spontaneously and iindependenly)
*Develop (Grow and change as the age to a fixed "adult state"

Now, I am not a hugboxer. I'm an abuser. But I'm also not stupid. I don't need to excuse my bloodlust by calling them bio-toys.
- Reply
Anonymous32(13): @Anonymous: "Genetic Programming" does not cancel out something being an animal. That's asinine.

"Here at Jurassic Park, we spliced Dinosaur DNA with frogs for easy of genetic manipulation. As you all know, that means they are not animals anymore. They are BioToys(c). Doesn't that make so much sense!"

Anonymous34: Can you have an intelligent conversation with a parrot? Or a myna bird? No, because, even though they can enunciate the language spoken to them after a fashion, they do not understand what it is they are even doing.

It's all mimicry.

The same can be said for the baby wets herself doll, it may cry like a baby, and wet it's diapers like a real baby, but again, it's just mimicry.

Fluffies where not born into the world through selective breeding, or evolution. They where manufactured in a laboratory.

They are an imitation of life. A mimicry of a sentient creature. Created to be marketed and sold as an expensive novelty to rich idiots with spoiled brat children

Anonymous35(29): @Anonymous: that's what I've been trying to get at this whole time.
- Reply
Anonymous36(13): @Anonymous: I'm not saying they aren't genetic chimeras. Hell, they're abominations, like ligers, or a humanzee. But they are still, by every single definition of the word, animals. In a court of law, they would be held up as animals.

I'm a private veterinarian in Missouri. I know what animals are. I know what genetics are. I know what hybrids and crossbreeds are.

Fluffies are chimeras. Abominations. But still animals.
- Reply
Anonymous37(13): @Anonymous: They're not an imitation of life. They aren't even biotoys. A biotoy would be something like Flubber. Absolutely built from the proteins up. Closer to a virus than an organism.

Fluffies are animals, made up of other animals, with some genetic fuckery. That doesn't automatically mean they aren't animals.

By that logic, chihuahuas are not animals.

- Reply
Anonymous39(13): @ObviouslyOblivious: Chihuahuas are sweet things, but they don't like everyone like other dogs do. They only really bond with one person.

- Reply
ObviouslyOblivious: Yeah, I know most dogs are normally sweet by nature, but the ones where I live are poorly behaved, especially around children. It makes me sad knowing that it's mainly the owners fault for how the dog is.
- Reply
Anonymous40(34): @Anonymous: Chihuahuas are the results of selective breeding, and are descended from a Mexican dog called a Tehchichi. They aren't from a petri dish.
- Reply
Anonymous41(13): @Anonymous: Neither are fluffies. You can't just make life. It doesn't work that way. Nobody is going to go through the money and research and time to make life from the ether...

...to sell as a pet. It's much cheaper and easier to hybridize and splice existing strains.

It's commonly accepted that fluffies are a mix of horse, pig, etc. And increasingly in recent stories, human.

Anonymous42(13): @Anonymous: Dolly the Cloned Sheep came from a petri dish. There was absolutely nothing natural about her creation.

Was she an animal?
- Reply
Anonymous43(34): @Anonymous: no, she's a clone.
- Reply
Anonymous44(13): @Anonymous: That sheep helped us make leaps in science, and gave birth to 6 healthy lambs.

You owe her an apology.
- Reply
Anonymous45(13): @Anonymous: I don't think that word means what you think it means.
- Reply
Poopiesketti: I don't really know why anyone would want one of those things. They're untrainable, unless you want to beat the shit out of it with a riding crop, they're loud, smelly, annoying, sinfully stupid, and stupidly fragile. If I wanted a weird, smelly pet that wouldn't listen to me, I'd buy a bird, or a ferret.

Anonymous46(13): @Poopiesketti: Or a child. Hoi Hoi hoi!

Anonymous47: @Anonymous: an artificial lifeform grown to gestation by natural means. A genetic copy of an already existing animal
- Reply
Anonymous48(13): @Anonymous: Uh.... no. A clone is just what happens when you put an ovum or altered cell inside another ovum with it's nucleus removed, resulting in an animal genetically identical to the original.

It's like saying a test tube baby isn't human.

Gardel: This drawing perfectly encapsulates what fluffies really are: manufactured goods

They were designed from the ground-up to be as cheap to produce as possible and so they become commodities

@Anonymous: exactly

@Anonymous:

@Anonymous:

Can't speak for other authors but in my HC its pretty clear that fluffies not being animals but biotoys is just a legal and PR move by hasbio's legal dept. so hasbio wont have to comply with animal right laws when manufacturing and handling fluffies

In my HC most enviromentalists never help fluffies either since they see them not as animals that need to be helped but as GMO abominations like they do with other GM organisms IRL
